September Newsletter
Week of September 28-October 2, 2015
Learning Focus:
Math- We will learn number 6: identifying, writing, making representations, and identifying groups. We will continue working on one-to-one correspondence, counting, and sorting. We are also working on counting to 20.
Reading – We will finish letter "Pp" and learn the two sounds of "Ii". We will name and identify objects that begin with "P" and "I" sounds.
These are the letters we have introduced so far this year:
A, C, O, G, T, F, S, P, and now I.
Please have your child practice naming these at home. All students should be able to name the capital and lowercase of these letters, as well as tell you all the sounds each letter makes.
We will be working on the Sight Words: you and it. Please practice them at home.
These are the Sight Words your child should be able to proficiently read at this point:
a, and, are, can, is, me, my, on, see, the, little and in.
Writing – We are working on writing the letters "Pp" and "Ii" correctly. "P" is a line letter, meaning it starts at the line - top line for capital and midline for lowercase. Go down, back up, and then make the circle. "I" is also a line letter. Please be sure your child starts at the TOP, not the bottom for capital "I" and start at the MIDLINE, not the bottom line for lowercase "i".
Please reinforce this at home. Please also continue helping your child write his/name correctly. It is VERY important that children form their letters correctly NOW, when we are learning them.Thank you!
Opportunities to Give Back
If you are looking for a way to show your child the value of giving back, we have 2 current opportunities.
1) Lee Denim Day
Teachers have participated in Lee Denim Day for many years, and this year, STUDENTS also have the opportunity to participate. Lee Denim Day raises money to fight breast cancer through the American Cancer Society.
For a donation of $1 or more, students will get to wear hats on Friday, October 2nd to show their support for the fight against breast cancer. Students will also receive a pink ribbon sticker to wear that day. (Teachers get to wear jeans, but since students are allowed to wear jeans everyday, we are giving the incentive of wearing fun hats.) We are also encouraging everyone to wear pink on Friday, October 2nd.
Our school goal is raise at least $500 to support the fight against cancer!
For more information for yourself or you own company, please see their website.
